UNICEF Soccer Tournament - Project Eliminate

Posted February 18, 2016

West Key Club and the West Soccer Team are joining together to create a soccer tournament to fundraise for UNICEF Project Eliminate, an organization that aims to eliminate neonatal and maternal tetanus. Every day, neonatal and maternal tetanus effects newborns. It is an excruciating disease that makes a baby sensitive to touch. With your help, we can help eliminate tetanus entirely. Kiwanis and UNICEF have already rid tetanus in 19 countries. But there is still more work to be done. Join this soccer tournament and be a part of this great cause!

Peer Tutoring for the New SAT

Posted February 9, 2016

Many of you may know that the new SAT will be administered to students starting in March of this year. Juniors at West will be able to take the SAT for free. How can you be successful? Get ahead and study for the SAT! Luckily, West High NHS members are available every morning in the Library from 7:15 AM until school starts to assist you. All senior NHS members have previously taken the SAT, so they know what it's like and can help you improve in areas you're uncomfortable in. A few of our members have even scored in the 99% tile! If you would like help with the SAT, or any standardized test (ACT, AP or SAT II), please visit us or request a tutor during your off period. We'd love to help!

WEST NHS to Launch Service Project

Posted February 9, 2016

The original service project, West High SPRITZ, will gather the Manchester community for a day of learning. Middle schoolers from all Manchester middle schools and Cawley Middle School in Hooksett will be encouraged to sign up for fun, unique, and quirky classes taught by NHS members. A course catalog of various topics such as Kitchen Chemistry and Morals and Life Lessons in South Park is currently being developed. Karina Ithier, West High NHS member, explains that she feels SPRITZ will be a successful event and "one of the most collaborative events that the NHS will have ever produced here." She explains that the project will not only get kids excited about learning, but also foster community connections among local middle schools. Ithier plans to teach poetry, acting, and screenwriting classes. "In my designed courses, students will be challenged to think creatively and understand how this can be applied to our world and historical perspectives." More information about West High SPRITZ will be unveiled as program director Nermin Hasanovic finalizes the event and its date.
